A Trek to Makalu Barun National Park

Makalu Barun National Park is situated on the eastern side of Nepal. Its altitude ranges from 1,000m to 8,025m and is bounded by the Nepal-China border on the northwest, and by the Arun River on the southeast.

As the gateway to the Khumbu region, the park covers an area of 1,521km² and contains an important network of river valleys and protected areas, including the Mount Makalu, Chamlang, Baruntse, and Serpini col passes.

The core zone is characterized by alpine grasslands and meadows, which transition into forests of deciduous and coniferous trees, including rhododendrons, magnolias, and spruces. The climate of the park varies widely, depending on altitude and location.

The most important vegetation types are scrub forests and meadows at lower altitudes, mixed coniferous forests and alpine grasslands at middle altitudes, and spruce and fir forests at high altitudes.
