Thorong Peak falls in the Annapurna region of Nepal and is a comparatively easy peak to climb. No previous experience is required to climb the mountain, but proper acclimatization, а good physique, and mental alertness are essential to climbing the peak. Thorong Peak Climbing: Itinerary & Highlights

With а permit to Thorong peak climbing, this trek commences from Besisahar and moves up to Bahun Danda. Through terraced fields and lush forests, the trail then walks into Chame. The tour continues to Bagar chhap, which falls in the Manang district. From this Tibetan village, the path moves into Chame and Pisang through dense forests. Manang Village, imitating a fortress, comes next in the trail. From here, trekkers ascend to Yak Kharka and then up to Thorong Phedi, the foot of the Thorong La Pass, which acts as a base camp. It requires fixing another camping near Thorong La, which facilitates reaching the summit in a single day. The peak towers are at 6145 meters. Upon arriving at the top of this comparatively easy mountain, Nilgiri, Tilicho, Annapurna massif, and Dhaulagiri range along with the entire Mustang Region, including the Kali Gandaki gorge.

Day 1: Arrival day (1,300 m)

Upon arrival at Kathmandu, you will greet and welcome by our agency’s representative in front of Arrival gate with Display board of Himalayan Exploration Treks then transfer to your Hotel.

Day 2: Free day and trek preparation.

During the free day in Kathmandu, you may have a chance to visit heritage site of Kathmandu valley, followed by pre-trip departure meeting regarding upcoming trekking peak climbing where you meet trek guide and others team members. They will brief you about the team formation, equipment and nature of peak climbing and others necessary information

Day 3: Kathmandu – Bulbule – Ngadi (1000 m) 7 hours by bus and 2 hours walk.

A picturesque drive in low land from Kathmandu to Bulbule 900m 7 hours by bus passing through several villages, landscapes, forest, and rivers. Then adventure footsteps begin here. Then, trek to Ngadi (1000M) 2 hours walk. (Lodge)

Day 4: Ngadi – Jagat (1400m) 5 hours walk. (Lodge)

This is the second day of the journey. You will head to Namche after the breakfast. The trail leads you the northern valley of the Dudh Koshi River valley passing by several beautiful villages with their vibrant culture, peaceful forests and crossing over several bridges along the trail. Finally, you will get Namche.

Day 5: Jagat – Dharapani (1970m) 6 hours walk. (Lodge)

Early morning, trek to Dharapani from Jagat. An easy walking trail along the road until Chamje and cross a suspension bridge, after it going up with bit zigzag trails passing through the forests, bamboo and rhododendron to Taal. Then, easy walk along the river get Dharapani.

Day 6: Dharapani to Chame 2,630m 5h00 walk

Today, walking along steep forested landscapes to reach in Timang where you can enjoy a spectacular view of Mt. Manaslu and other major Himalayas like Annapurna II, Lamjung Himal, and Nathi Chuli. Night at a lodge.

Day 7: Chame to Upper Pisang (3,700m.) 5h30 walk

An easy walking till Swargadwari after crossing the bridge a steep trail through a dense pine forest will bring to the spectacular amphitheater-shaped rock in Swargadwari, rising about 1000m from the river. At the same time, you will be surrounded by Himalayan peaks. Night at the lodge.

Day 8: Upper Pisang – Manang (3540m) 4h00 walk

It is an easy descending walk to Manang, heart of the region, passing through alpine forest, village and monasteries along the trail where many trekkers are encountered in the classic route of Annapurna Circuit Trek.

Day 9: Manang: Acclimatization day !

This is the scheduled acclimatization day. It is encouraged to make a side trip surrounding the Manang village which allowing proper acclimatization. There are lots of places for the side trip like Praken Gompa, Gangapurna Glacier, Milarepa cave, monastery, and ice lake. There is also possible to get some ideas regarding the Acute Mountain Sickness provided by the Himalayan Rescue Association.

Day 10: Manang – Leather (4200 m) 5h00 walk.

We continue walking through the yak pasture and beautiful scenery of the mountains from Manang. A gradual climb up that leads to Leather for the night.

Day 11: Leather – Thorong High Camp (4800 m)

Today we walk along quiet distinct alpine areas. Crossing the bridge, a short climb that leads the landslide area where we can see Himalayan Thar then continue to Thorong Phedi. Once taking a short break and further 2 hours steep climb up to High Camp.

Day 12 - 14: Thorong High Camp – Thorong Base Camp (5416 m) – Muktinath. 8h00 walk.

The trail leads us to the pass of Thorong – La with an elevation of 5,416 meters and generates a camp there to facilitate the night stay. Assemble all the climbing gears, fixed the rope for the summit; it is important to start early before snow melting due to the sunrise and heavy wind in the late morning. Once getting the summit to descend back to base camp. Set out all the gears and clean up it then continue descending to Muktinath.

Day 15: Muktinath – Jomsom (2800 m) 6h00 walk.

It is easy to walk down to Kagbeni and highly recommends walking from Lubra valley to void dust caused by road. Super views of Tilicho peak, Nilgiri, and Dhaulagiri range from Lubra valley. Kagbeni, a gateway of upper Mustang you get an opportunity to explore the Tibetan culture and monasteries then continue walking along the Kali Gandaki River to Jomsom.

Day 16: Jomsom – Pokhara 0h25 flight.

Early morning get ready for the flight which traverses the giant Himalayas of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri give magnificent views of surrounding Himalayas.

Day 17: Pokhara – Kathmandu 6-7h00 by Bus.

A long scenic drive takes 6-7 hours to Kathmandu from Pokhara. Crossing over the cultivated lands, local villages, en route along the Trisuli River arrive in Kathmandu at afternoon.

Day 18: Final departure.

Free time in Kathmandu and transfer to the airport two hours before the departure of your flight home.
